Carbon vs. Ceramic — What's the Difference?

Both are solid upgrades over cheap dyed film. Here's how to pick the right one for you.

Carbon Tint

Budget-friendly performance

  • More budget-friendly with a smooth matte finish
  • Good heat and glare reduction for everyday driving
  • Strong UV protection without the premium price
  • No metal — won't interfere with phone, GPS, or radio

Best for most daily drivers who want a great look and real comfort at a fair price.

Ceramic Tint

Maximum heat & UV rejection

  • Superior heat rejection — keeps your cabin noticeably cooler
  • Excellent clarity and color stability over time
  • Very high UV and infrared blocking for skin and interior protection
  • No metal — won't interfere with phone, GPS, or radio

Best if you park outside all day, hate summer heat, or want the longest-lasting film on the market.

If you just want your car to look better and feel cooler on a budget, carbon tint is usually enough. If you want the best comfort in the summer, ceramic is worth the upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about window tinting in Charlotte.

What are the window tint laws in North Carolina?

North Carolina law requires front side windows to allow at least 35% of light through (35% VLT). Rear side windows and the rear window also require 35% VLT or higher. Non-reflective tint is allowed on the windshield above the AS-1 line. Medical exemptions exist for certain conditions.

How long does window tinting take?

Most sedans and coupes take 2–3 hours. SUVs and trucks with more glass can take 3–4 hours. We'll give you a more specific time estimate when you book — it depends on your vehicle and whether you're doing a full car or partial package.

Carbon vs. ceramic tint — which should I get?

Carbon tint is the best value for most drivers. It gives you a clean matte look, good heat and glare reduction, and strong UV protection at a fair price. Ceramic tint is worth the upgrade if you park outside all day, hate summer heat, or want the longest-lasting film available — it rejects significantly more heat and infrared radiation. When in doubt, we're happy to walk you through the options when you get a quote.

Will window tint mess with my phone signal, GPS, or radio?

No. Both our carbon and ceramic films contain no metal, so they won't interfere with your phone signal, GPS, radar detectors, or radio reception. Older metallic tints can cause interference, but we only use non-metallic films.

How long does window tint last?

Quality carbon tint typically lasts 5–10 years. Ceramic tint can last 10 years or more with proper care. Cheap dyed films fade much faster — often within 2–3 years — which is exactly why we don't use them. The films we install are built to hold up in the Carolina heat.

How do I care for new window tint?

Keep your windows rolled up for at least 3–4 days after installation to let the film cure properly. You may notice slight haziness or small water bubbles during this period — that's normal and will clear up. When cleaning, use a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner. Avoid anything abrasive on the inside of your windows.
